INDIANAPOLIS - Each year, IUPUI Student-Athletes nominate their favorite professors to be recognized at the men's and women's basketball home games. These professors have a profound impact on our student-athletes, whether it be their encouragement in the classroom, the effort they put in after hours, or the connection they make with the students in their class. The professors at IUPUI have helped our student-athletes excel in the classroom, which is beneficial for their plans after college. This year, they will be honored at the men's home game on January 13th and the women's home game on February 21st.

This past fall semester, IUPUI student-athletes achieved a 3.37 cumulative GPA, making this the 30th straight semester at a 3.0 or above. In addition to this accomplishment, 198 student-athletes achieved a 3.0 fall semester GPA or above, with 49 student-athletes achieving a 4.0. The men's tennis team took the top spot this past fall with a team GPA of 3.75 and the women's soccer team right behind them with a team GPA of 3.68.

The academic accomplishments of our student-athletes are a combination of the hard work they put into their classes as well as the teachers who provide them with support and the resources they need to succeed. We are proud to announce that the professors below have been selected as "Favorite Professors" by our student-athletes. Thank you for all of your hard work and dedication.

O'GRADY, KILE HONORED WITH 2023 JACADA AWARDS

jacada-awards.jpg
By: Ed Holdaway (@EdHoldaway), IUPUI Sports Information

Two members of the IUPUI Athletics Academic Support team were recently honored by JACADA (Jaguar Academic Advising Association) for their continued work with students. Longtime Associate A.D. for Academics Denise O'Grady was named the 2023 JACADA Academic Advising Administrator of the Year while Kim Kile was runner-up for the Outstanding New Advisor of the Year. Both are now encouraged to apply for the national NACADA Awards for their work.

O'Grady, who oversees the department's academic team, was awarded based on her work with the entire department. Nominees must have a minimum of three years in advising administration with at least 50 percent of their duties in advising administration. IUPUI recently earned the top NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in the Horizon League at 94 percent, while routinely posting a departmental grade point average of roughly 3.4.

Kile, who joined the IUPUI staff in July 2022, began overseeing the academic coordination of the men's and women's basketball programs just prior to this academic year. In addition to her work with IUPUI student-athletes, Kile is currently pursuing her PhD in American Studies.

IUPUI Records Graduate Success Rate of 94%

The IUPUI Athletics Department continued its excellence in NCAA academic metrics as the Jaguars recorded a departmental Graduation Success Rate of 94 percent, as released by the NCAA on Wednesday (Dec. 6). Every IUPUI program outpaced federal rates with seven different programs registering perfect GSR scores for the 2013-2016 cohort while IUPUI's 94 percent mark was tops in the Horizon League and third among Division I programs in the state of Indiana.

In addition, IUPUI student-athletes outperformed the general IUPUI student population, graduating at an 82 percent clip against the university-wide 57 percent mark.

The IUPUI men's soccer and tennis and women's basketball, soccer, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball programs all earned a perfect score of 100 percent.

"We're incredibly proud of the work our student-athletes do in the classroom to rank among the best on our campus and to outperform their peers. These numbers reflect the hard work of our student-athletes, coaches and academic staff. When we recruit student-athletes in any of our sports, the expectation is that they're provided a first-rate Division I experience and they leave here with their degree," Director of Athletics Luke Bosso said. "These numbers substantiate that. Our goal is to continue to build on a long history of academic success."

The IUPUI women's cross country and track and field program earned a 95 percent mark while the men's basketball and cross country and track and field program closed at 93 percent.
